A shocking accident took place in Bihar’s capital city, Patna, where a woman police constable lost her life, and three other policemen were seriously injured. The tragic incident happened late at night when a speeding car hit them near a police check post.

The police team was on night patrol duty, managing traffic and keeping an eye on suspicious activities when the accident happened. The incident has left the city in shock and raised serious questions about road safety and rash driving.

According to local reports, the police officers were on duty at a checkpoint near the Boring Road area in Patna. It was around 1:30 AM when a white car came speeding towards the barricade. Despite warnings, the driver did not slow down and rammed into the police team standing by the road.

Constable Kavita Kumari, who was just 27 years old, died on the spot due to the impact. She had recently joined the police force and was known for her dedication to work. Three other police officers—two constables and one sub-inspector—were injured badly and taken to the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH).

Eyewitness Accounts

Some locals who witnessed the scene said the car was moving at extremely high speed and did not even attempt to brake. “The sound of the crash was so loud that we ran out of our homes. We saw the car hit the officers and drag one of them for a few meters,” said a nearby resident.

Another eyewitness mentioned that the road was empty, but the driver seemed to be intoxicated or not in control of the vehicle.

Investigation Begins

The Patna police have registered an FIR and are currently investigating the matter. The car has been seized, and the driver has been taken into custody. Initial reports suggest that the driver might have been under the influence of alcohol.

“We are checking CCTV footage and conducting a blood test to confirm if the driver was drunk. Strict action will be taken,” said a senior police official from Patna Police.

A Life Lost in Line of Duty

Constable Kavita Kumari was a young and bright officer. She had recently completed her training and was excited to serve the people of Patna. Her sudden death has left her family and colleagues heartbroken.

“She always wanted to become a police officer. She was brave and committed to her duty. It’s hard to believe that she is no more,” said her father in tears.

Her last rites were performed with full police honors. Senior officers and colleagues attended the ceremony and paid their respects.

Public Reaction

The incident has gone viral on social media. People are expressing their anger and demanding strict punishment for the driver. Hashtags like #JusticeForKavita and #PatnaAccident are trending on X (formerly Twitter).

Many people are also questioning the lack of proper road safety measures and the rising number of drunk driving cases in Patna.

Police Demands Better Safety

Following the incident, the Patna Police Association has demanded better safety arrangements for on-duty police officers. They have also asked for high-visibility jackets, body cameras, and better lighting at checkpoints.

One senior officer stated, “Our officers put their lives at risk every night. It is time the government ensures their safety. We can’t afford to lose more lives like this.”

Road Accidents on the Rise

This is not the first time that such an incident has occurred in Patna. In the last few months, several cases of reckless driving and hit-and-run have been reported in the city. Experts believe that strict implementation of traffic rules and better surveillance are the need of the hour.

According to recent NCRB data, Bihar has seen a rise in road accidents, with Patna being one of the top cities reporting fatal crashes.

Government Response

The Bihar government has promised a fair investigation into the incident. A compensation of ₹10 lakh has been announced for the family of the deceased constable. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow and assured that action will be taken.

“We are deeply saddened by this loss. Police are the backbone of our security system. We will ensure justice for the victim,” said the CM in an official statement.

The tragic death of Constable Kavita Kumari is a reminder of the dangers that police officers face every day. While the driver must be held accountable, the government also needs to ensure that officers working in the field are protected from such threats.

Citizens must also act responsibly. Speeding and drunk driving are not just traffic violations—they are deadly crimes that can destroy lives in seconds. It’s high time we treat road safety as a serious issue.
