PM Modi Says Congress is Instilling Fear Among Muslims

From the early reports by the Election Commission of India, it seems that the alliance between the Jammu Kashmir National Conference and Congress has achieved a majority in J&K as the counting of votes for the 2024 assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir is still underway.

After a close race against Congress, the ruling BJP in Haryana unexpectedly took the lead, bucking exit poll projections. This year, the BJP is expected to win a third term in the state.

These are noteworthy elections because they are the first large ones to take place since the recent Lok Sabha elections. Ballots were initially submitted by mail, followed by votes cast using electronic voting machines (EVMs). Political parties are eagerly anticipating the results.

The 90-seat J&K assembly elections are especially significant because they are the first since Article 370 was revoked in 2019, a move that fundamentally altered the political landscape of the area. Exit polls show a tight race between the Congress-National Conference alliance and the BJP. It is projected that the alliance will win about 43 seats, less than the 46 needed for a majority.

In Haryana, the Congress wants to take back the government after ten years in opposition, while the BJP wants to hold onto power in the face of growing anti-incumbency feelings. Considering that the results of this election will shape narratives for future elections in other states, both parties should consider it as a test of their case.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the election scene is different from that of Haryana. It’s not only a contest between the Congress and the BJP. Instead, there is a varied field of candidates. According to exit polls, the BJP is anticipated to win over 55 seats, considerably above the majority line, while the Congress is expected to win about 27 seats. In addition, the INLD is expected to gain two seats, the JJP one, and other parties perhaps five. Stay tuned for additional information!
