“Every challenge carries the seed of an opportunity—it’s up to us to nurture it.”
For Dr. Vinod Anand, Managing Director of Akanksha Global Logistics Pvt. Ltd., this belief became the driving force behind a journey that transformed India’s healthcare logistics landscape.
The Visionary Beginnings
In the mid-1980s, India’s healthcare sector faced a critical challenge—advanced medical equipment, essential for life-saving treatments, was beyond reach due to import duties as high as 176%. For Dr. Anand, then a young professional with a background in biology, this was more than a statistic—it was a call to action.
In 1985, he founded Akanksha Enterprises, a small proprietorship firm with a powerful goal: to bridge the gap between global medical innovations and Indian healthcare. Two years later, armed with a Customs House Agent (CHA) license, Dr. Anand began streamlining the complex import process for hospitals and suppliers. His persistent advocacy with the Ministry of Finance and Customs authorities led to a landmark policy change—reducing import duties on medical equipment to zero percent in the early 1990s.
That decision didn’t just lower costs; it revolutionized access to advanced healthcare in India.
Catalyzing a Medical Revolution
This breakthrough sparked what many call the medical revolution of India. Hospitals gained access to cutting-edge technologies like CT scans, MRIs, PET scanners, and surgical implants, allowing patients to receive world-class treatment at home. It also fueled the rise of medical tourism, which today contributes over $7.4 billion annually to the economy and is projected to reach $43 billion in the next decade.
Building Akanksha Global Logistics Pkvt. Ltd.
What began as a small firm grew into Akanksha Global Logistics Pvt. Ltd., a government-approved customs broker and now one of India’s top three players in medical cargo import and export. Over the years, Akanksha has handled medical imports worth over ₹14,000 crores, partnering with leading healthcare institutions like Medanta, Indraprastha Apollo, Fortis, Paras B K Kapur,RML0ospital.G B Pant hospital and many more in the medical industry in india.
With a team of just 16 dedicated professionals, Akanksha boasts an impressive 100% client retention rate for over two decades and 90% employee retention—a reflection of its culture of trust, precision, and reliability.
Dr. Anand’s leadership philosophy is simple yet profound: “We don’t just move goods; we move trust and deliver hope.”
Beyond Logistics: Innovating Healthcare Technology
Dr. Anand’s drive for innovation led to the creation of Athero Point, in collaboration with AI expert Dr. Jasjit Singh Suri. This cutting-edge venture uses patented ultrasound imaging software to detect atherosclerosis—a major cause of heart disease—at an early stage. By offering 10-year predictive risk assessments and partnering with insurance companies, Athero Point has already conducted over 3,000 diagnostic tests, democratizing access to preventive healthcare.
A Legacy Continued
In 2010, Prateek Anand joined the company, bringing fresh vision and technological acumen to strengthen Akanksha’s growth trajectory. Together, the father-son duo is driving expansion into new sectors while staying rooted in their mission of service and innovation.
Dr. Anand’s trailblazing work has earned him several honors, including the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Award (2020), an Honorary Doctorate from the American University, and recognition as one of the Precious Gems of India 2024—a testament to his pioneering impact on healthcare logistics.
Carrying the Vision Forward
From dismantling import barriers to advancing AI-driven diagnostics, Dr. Vinod Anand’s journey is a story of vision, persistence, and purpose. Under his and Prateek’s leadership, Akanksha Global Logistics continues to embody its mission—not just transporting medical cargo, but carrying hope, health, and a brighter future for India.
As Dr. Anand puts it, “Every challenge we overcome brings us closer to our goal of making healthcare accessible and affordable for all.”
