New Delhi [India], August 28: Dr. Charmi Patel’s journey is marked by intellectual rigor, groundbreaking research, and excellence in Human Resource Management (HRM) and international business. Born and raised in India, Patel’s academic journey began at Sophia College, University of Mumbai, where she pursued a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Honors in Sociology and Anthropology. Graduating in 2006 with distinction, Patel’s early success reflected her deep understanding of social dynamics and cultural contexts — a foundation for her research.

In 2007, Patel advanced her career by moving to the UK to study at Aston Business School, Aston University, Birmingham. She earned a Master of Science (MSc) in Human Resource Management and Business, again with distinction. During this period, Patel’s future was profoundly shaped by her mentor, Professor Pawan Budhwar. Under his guidance, she honed her expertise in HRM principles and business practices and discovered the transformative potential of academic research.

Inspired by her mentor’s support, Patel pursued a Ph.D. in Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management at Aston Business School, which she completed in 2012, submitting her doctoral research without corrections. Over the years, Dr. Patel and Professor Budhwar co-authored 18 of her 26 journal articles, contributing significant insights into the interplay between international business strategies and HRM practices across cultural landscapes. Their scholarly endeavors also extended to co-authoring one influential book and three book chapters, cementing Patel’s reputation as a leading authority in international HRM.

Dr. Patel’s research has consistently been driven by a deep desire to unravel the complexities of managing top teams within global contexts. While serving as an Associate Professor of International Human Resource Management at Henley Business School, University of Reading, this focus led to the publication of several seminal studies, most notably “Top Management Teams in International Business Research: A Review and Suggestions for Future Research” in the Journal of International Business Studies. This work has become a cornerstone in the field, offering a comprehensive examination of the roles, challenges, and strategic impacts of top management teams in international business. By setting a bold agenda for future research, Dr. Patel solidified her reputation as a visionary thought leader. Her work continues to shape academic discourse and provides invaluable insights for leaders grappling with the complexities of global management, driving innovation in international business strategy on a global scale.
