Jammu, May 15, 2025 —

The Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), Nitin Agrawal, is set to visit Jammu today. His visit comes at a time of growing tension along the India-Pakistan border, especially in the Line of Control (LoC) areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

This visit is part of a regular review of the border security situation, but sources say the recent infiltration attempts and drone sightings from the Pakistan side have raised concern in security agencies.

BSF DG’s Visit: A High-Level Security Review

According to officials, DG Nitin Agrawal will hold meetings with senior BSF officers, local commanders, and intelligence units. The aim is to assess the current border patrolling strategy and security deployment in sensitive areas. He will also visit BSF posts along the International Border (IB) and the LoC.

BSF officials confirmed that the DG will interact with the jawans (soldiers) to understand their challenges and boost morale amid the current high-alert situation.

Rising Tension at the India-Pakistan Border

Over the past few weeks, cross-border firing, ceasefire violations, and drone activities have increased in several sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. These include the Akhnoor sector, RS Pura sector, and areas near Poonch and Rajouri.

The Indian Army and BSF have jointly launched anti-infiltration operations. The focus is on preventing militants from entering Indian territory using the rugged terrain and forest cover.

Security experts believe that terror groups operating from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are trying to push militants into India before the Amarnath Yatra, which is expected to begin in June.

Drone Threat at the Border

Another serious concern for the BSF is the rise in drone activity from across the border. These drones are reportedly used to drop weapons, drugs, and money for terrorist operatives inside India.

In 2024 alone, BSF shot down over 90 Pakistani drones. The number has already crossed 20 in the first four months of 2025.

The BSF is now using anti-drone technology, radar systems, and night vision equipment to counter this threat. DG Nitin Agrawal is expected to review these systems during his visit.

Increased Surveillance and Troop Deployment

As per intelligence sources, the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) is planning to launch multiple attacks in Indian cities. The security forces are on high alert, and extra troops have been deployed along the Jammu border.

The BSF and Indian Army are also working closely with state police and central intelligence agencies. Coordination meetings are being held daily to share real-time information and prevent any terror activity.

BSF DG Likely to Meet Jammu & Kashmir Officials

During his visit, the BSF chief may also meet top Jammu & Kashmir police officials and civil administration officers. The discussions will cover internal security, civil-military coordination, and peacekeeping efforts.

He is expected to stress the need for community policing, where local villagers in border areas act as the eyes and ears of the security agencies. This model has helped prevent multiple infiltration attempts in the past.

People Living Near Border: In Fear, But Hopeful

People living in border villages near Jammu, Kathua, and Poonch have expressed concern over the increasing cross-border threats. Many say that nights are sleepless due to fears of shelling or militant movement.

“We live in constant fear. When the firing starts, we have no time to take shelter,” says Rajinder Singh, a farmer from the Arnia sector.

However, villagers welcome the BSF DG’s visit. “It gives us hope that the government is watching and helping us,” says Rukhsana Begum, a teacher from Suchetgarh.

Security Ahead of Amarnath Yatra 2025

The Amarnath Yatra is just a few weeks away, and the administration wants to ensure that pilgrims can travel safely through Jammu and Kashmir. The DG BSF’s visit is also linked to preparations for this major event.

Thousands of security personnel, including the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Army, and BSF, will be deployed to guard the pilgrimage routes.

BSF will also provide sniffer dogs, bomb squads, and quick response teams to patrol the national highways and camps during the yatra period.

Center Keeps a Close Eye

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is monitoring the situation closely. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has held multiple review meetings with security chiefs and J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.

Sources say the government wants to send a clear message that India will not tolerate cross-border terrorism and is ready to take strong action if needed.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire: Fragile but Important

In February 2021, India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire agreement along the LoC. Though the ceasefire brought temporary peace, recent activities from the Pakistani side have violated the spirit of the agreement.

Defence analysts say that while full-scale war is not expected, proxy warfare, drone intrusions, and terror infiltration are likely to continue.

India is expected to raise these violations through diplomatic channels and may also escalate the matter at international forums if required.

What to Expect from the BSF DG Visit

Here’s what is likely to happen during DG Nitin Agrawal’s visit:

  • Ground visit to BSF border posts in Jammu region.
  • High-level meetings with local BSF commanders.
  • Review of anti-drone measures and border fencing.
  • Interaction with jawans and assessment of troop readiness.
  • Joint planning with Army and state police.
  • Evaluation of Amarnath Yatra route security.
  • Community outreach and confidence-building in border villages.

A Strategic Visit Amid Critical Times

The BSF DG’s visit to Jammu is a timely move aimed at boosting preparedness along the India-Pakistan border. With increased threats of terror infiltration, drone attacks, and ceasefire violations, India’s security forces are in full alert mode.

This visit underlines the importance of a strong and coordinated security approach involving central forces, state police, and border communities. It also reassures the people of Jammu and Kashmir that their safety is a top priority for the Indian government.

As the situation unfolds, security forces continue to stay vigilant, and India remains committed to safeguarding its territorial integrity.
