New Delhi: Patanjali, founded by Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna, is one of the most popular and respected brands in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) segment in India. Patanjali has more than 500 products including foods, cosmetics, dairy, medicines, biscuits, etc. Its focus on swadeshi and Ayurvedic products has helped Patanjali carve out a niche for itself in the FMCG space. Chander Shekhar, General Manager (Purchase) at Patanjali is helping the home-grown FMCG brand grow further by introducing new systems and processes within the organisation.

Chander Shekhar, who has a rich and diverse experience of more than 23 years in different businesses, has been a part of Patanjali since July last year. He is responsible for global sourcing and procurement, cost reduction initiatives, materials/inventory planning, demand planning and forecasting, project management, quality assurance & control, contract negotiations, vendor evaluation, strategic planning, and much more.

“Patanjali is a giant company with multiple manufacturing sites and locations and deals with hundreds of vendors and suppliers within the country and outside. For such a large company, clockwork precision is a must to ensure smooth operations and ensure products are easily available. This is why we have been focusing on implementing the latest systems and processes to streamline the functioning of the purchase department. This is helping in better inventory management and in making the operations more efficient. The initiatives we have undertaken in the last eight months have resulted in savings of approximately Rs. 3 crore for the company. We are looking forward to scaling up our investments in systems to achieve greater savings and higher efficiencies,” said Mr Chander Shekhar.

After completing his mechanical engineering (production), Mr Chander Shekhar pursued a post-graduate diploma in materials management, followed by MBA with specialisation in materials management. He is a result-oriented, versatile and achievement-driven professional with a vast national and international experience in meeting business needs in a fast-paced and growing environment. He has proven expertise in driving projects related to material/supply planning, demand-supply matching, and inventory management. He excels in developing and executing demand plans and inventory plans that facilitate meeting delivery & production objectives.

Before joining Patanjali, Mr Chander Shekhar was Head of Purchase and Store at Gyan Dairy. He helped the UP-based dairy save more than six crores in costs in just over two financial years.

Mr Chander Shekhar began his career in March 2001 as a production supervisor with Kadmi Tools International. He gradually rose the ranks to become an integral part of top companies like Moser Baer, Tigaksha Metallics (maker of Super Max blades), Laser Shaving (makers of laser and other blade brands), Hero Steels (A Hero Group company), and JMP Industries.
